I once bought into purity culture. When I Kissed Dating Good Bye came out and Joshua Harris emerged as the spokesperson for the movement, I thought it should have been me. I could have written that book. I could have been the poster boy for purity. It's so interesting to see Josh and now Shannon both denounce the movement they popularized. As for me, I'm glad I did not set myself up for the same fall. If someone asked me now if they should save themselves for marriage, I would say no. Most likely, it will do more harm than good. If you love someone and are committed to them, and they feel the same way, you don't have to wait.
